Backcountry Ski or Snowboard Overnight Trip Overview
A backcountry ski or snowboard weekend with an Apex Ex guide is an incredible way to experience winter in the Colorado Rockies. Whether you choose to sleep in a backcountry hut, or a decide to try a snow cave, spending the night in the Colorado backcountry during winter is an awesome way to enhance your backcountry ski or snowboard experience.
Day 1- Initially learn backcountry skills such as route finding, avalanche safety and efficient up-hill travel on backcountry skis and split boards. Learn the basics of safe backcountry travel in avalanche terrain, including proper use of avalanche safety equipment. You will also learn the basics of winter survival skills. That evening Apex guests experience a great meal and the company of your fellow skiers/splitboarders.
Lodging Options-Backcountry huts often have wood burning stoves and give you the chance to dry out your gear. Spending the night in a snow cave is a fundamentally different experience.
Camping Option– Sleeping in a snow cave provides a chance to learn some winter survival skills. The skills that one learns from a snow camping experience with Apex are very practical for those spending time in the backcountry during the winter months on your own without a guide.
Day 2-The following morning you have the opportunity to eat a hearty breakfast to fuel our final day adventure. Whether the objective of your group is to ski from the summit of a peak or just maximize your powder turns, the skills that you learned on the previous day are put to use.
A GREAT WINTER OVERNIGHT EXPERIENCE IN THE BACKCOUNTRY WHILE GETTING TO EXPERIENCE COLORADO POWDER
At the beginner level you get the opportunity to learn the basics of safe backcountry travel in avalanche terrain. Training with include how to properly use avalanche safety equipment, as well as how to efficiently travel uphill on skis/splitboards. The basics of winter survival skills are also covered.

Rocky Mountain National Park
This trip is great for skiers or snowboarders who want to either ski powder in the backcountry or learn more about backcountry travel. An added bonus of these trips is to also experience an overnight in the backcountry.
Healthy and active people will do well on these trips. Solid skiing skills along with a moderate level of fitness will increase your enjoyment of these trips.
Wear layers so that you can shed them if you are hot and bundle up if you are cold. Consult the backcountry ski/snowboard overnight gear list (insert link) to find out everything you will need to bring with you.
Gratuity: The outdoor industry depends on gratuity to ensure quality in the field. Your guide goes to incredible lengths to keep you safe and happy on the mountain. 20% is recommended.
Cancellation Policy: There is a 50% refund available for trips canceled more than 2 weeks in advance. All trips are non-refundable within 2 weeks of the trip date. In the case of inclement weather prior to the trip start you will be credited the amount paid for future use with Apex Ex valid for up to 1 year from the scheduled trip date.
Responsibility: In the case that a member of the party becomes sick or injured it is the responsibility of the group to abandon the summit attempt and assist in rescue. Additionally, if for any reason the guide determines the group is in unreasonable danger, it is the responsibility of the climbing members to stay with the guide. These situations are part of mountaineering and are non-refundable.
