Ages: The majority of participants on these trips are adults. But young adults and kids are welcome too. Children under the age of 11 require parental supervision. Young adults over the age of 11 can join the adult groups.
Ice Climbing is more about technique than strength. Apex Ex Ice Climbing guides will teach you the importance of foot work and proper tool placement so that anyone, regardless of your level of strength, will have fun.
Healthy and active people will do well on these courses. Whether you are an experienced ice climber or a first timer, your guide will cover many different techniques to keep you safe and happy while ice climbing.
Wear layers so that you can shed them if you are hot and bundle up if you are cold. Bringing water repellant clothing is very important. We recommend that ice climbers wear a Gore Tex, or comparable, jacket and pants. Wearing warm under layers is very important as well, at least one layer of synthetic long underwear or light weight fleece under your gore tex is required. Both winter hat and winter socks are also crucial to your layering system while ice climbing. A pair of warm but dexterous gloves are the most important aspect of your ice climbing layering system. A down or synthetic coat that can be worn over all of your gear is the final touch to your ice climbing layering system. A medium sized (40+ liter) backpack, and any required medications is necessary. Please consult the ice climbing gear list (insert link here).
Gratuity: The outdoor industry depends on gratuity to ensure quality in the field. Your guide goes to incredible lengths to keep you safe and happy. A tip of twenty to thirty dollars per person per day is recommended for excellent service on this trip.
Cancellation Policy: There is a 50% refund available for trips canceled more than 2 weeks in advanced. All trips are non-refundable within 2 weeks of the trip date. In the case of inclement weather prior to the trip start you will be credited the amount paid for future use with Apex Ex valid for up to 1 year from the scheduled trip date.
Responsibility: In the case that a member of the party becomes sick or injured it is the responsibility of the group to abandon the summit attempt and assist in rescue. Additionally, if for any reason the guide determines the group is in unreasonable danger, it is the responsibility of the climbing members to stay with the guide. These situations are part of mountaineering and are non-refundable.
