A great winter overnight experience in the backcountry, while getting to experience Colorado powder!
A backcountry ski or snowboard weekend with an Apex Ex guide is an incredible way to experience winter in the Colorado Rockies. Whether you choose to sleep in a backcountry hut, or a decide to try a snow cave, spending the night in the Colorado backcountry during winter is an awesome way to enhance your backcountry ski or snowboard experience.
Day 1- Initially learn backcountry skills such as route finding, avalanche safety and efficient up-hill travel on backcountry skis and split boards. Learn the basics of safe backcountry travel in avalanche terrain, including proper use of avalanche safety equipment. You will also learn the basics of winter survival skills. That evening Apex guests experience a great meal and the company of your fellow skiers/splitboarders.
Lodging Options-Backcountry huts often have wood burning stoves and give you the chance to dry out your gear. Spending the night in a snow cave is a fundamentally different experience.
Camping Option– Sleeping in a snow cave provides a chance to learn some winter survival skills. The skills that one learns from a snow camping experience with Apex are very practical for those spending time in the backcountry during the winter months on your own without a guide.
Day 2-The following morning you have the opportunity to eat a hearty breakfast to fuel our final day adventure. Whether the objective of your group is to ski from the summit of a peak or just maximize your powder turns, the skills that you learned on the previous day are put to use.
